E-Payments and Workers’ Comp: The Industry’s Move to Electronic Payments
March 18 at 1pm EST/10am PST
Presented by Change Healthcare
Electronic payments reduce payers’ administrative workload and expenses, improve provider satisfaction, and can generate revenue and margin for payers. Although widely adopted by other payers, the workers’ compensation industry has yet to fully embrace e-payments. As workers’ comp payers struggle with increasing administrative costs and declining margins, e-payments can deliver a tried-and-tested solution.
Joe Paduda will share the results of a Health Strategy Associates survey on the state of e-payments in the workers’ comp industry. He and Bill Barbato, GM & VP, B2B Payment Solutions of Change Healthcare, will share insights on how changes in the fraud landscape have expedited the need for more secure payment types. In this webinar, you will discover:
–Findings on the state of the workers’ comp industry and how payers are streamlining payment processes
–The impact of e-payments on administrative expenses
–Processes used by workers’ comp payers to assess the potential impact of e-payments on costs and margin

Among COVID-19 and delayed surgeries, reductions in Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, rising unemployment and other economic pressures, hospitals are having a tough time financially. And, facilities are looking to workers’ comp to help make up the revenue. Employers in most states are paying 3 to 8 times Medicare’s cost for facility fees.
Joe Paduda will discuss the effect of these external cost drivers on workers’ compensation and ways self-insured employers can mitigate them in a one-hour webinar for the California Self-Insurers Association. The webinar starts at 10:30 a.m. Pacific/1:30 Eastern on November 17.
The webinar is free to CSIA members and available for $25 to non-members. Register here.
The National Council of Self Insurers (NCSI) will present its Annual Conference virtually through a series 8 webinars, scheduled two at a time between September 22 and December 1. You can select one or multiple sessions or opt to attend the whole conference.
On October 8, starting at 9:30 a.m., Joe Paduda will discuss the New Cost Driver Frontier — how external forces (like COVID-19 and federal reimbursement changes) are driving up employers’ costs for hospitals.
In most states, employers pay 3 to 8 times Medicare’s cost for facility services. He’ll explain why – and how – hospitals and health systems target workers’ comp and outline ways to mitigate their efforts.
Again, Joe’s webinar starts at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 8 during NCSI’s Annual Meeting. CEUs for this and other webinars are available. Find out more here or by contacting NCSI’s Executive Director Jill Dulich at email@example.com or 714.679.7707.
